With more than two decades of higher education leadership experience and an earned MBA, Karlos brings breadth and depth to the role of Chair for the Police Accountability Board.
Prior to joining UC San Diego, Karlos served as the Associate Dean of Students for Student Conduct and Deputy Title IX Coordinator at Cal State Los Angeles and Director of University Student Affairs at Marshall B. Ketchum University, which included University Police oversight, Title IX, student conduct and equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) programs. At Scripps College, he served as Assistant to the Vice President of Student Affairs and Dean of Students. He also served as the inaugural Assistant Dean supporting First Generation Students at Dartmouth College and led EDI Leadership Programs. Karlos started his career at Sacramento State where he advised 600 student clubs, Greek Life, leadership programs, campuswide events and served as faculty of practice for the Hornet Summer Bridge program where he designed and facilitated a leadership development course.
Karlos currently serves as the Assistant Director of Communications reporting to the Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs and Campus Life where he oversees executive communications and divisional messaging for internal and external audiences. He values transparency and accountability and believes that clear and concise communication is essential to ensure community safety and student success.
